Mzandile Stick: Was really hung out to dry by Allistair Coetsee, who did everything in his power to shift the blame to Stick after the horrendous 2016 and it isn't like the team got any better in 2017 without Stick. So I feel many people still attach 2016's failures to Stick. While formally Stick is the backline coach, he is also the skills coach. He worked very closely on attacking/ball skills development of the Boks, but also on getting players to minimize their "back to play" times, where the players are trained to always be on their feet and not lying around after tackles/being tackled, etc. Very important work and something a former 7's player will especially know all about. Our try scoring stats at the World Cup was up their with the best (it was the most in fact and everyone had some easy pool games, so one cannot use that as an excuse for why we scored so many tries).

Felix Jones: I am not sure his contract has been extended as I think he was only contracted for the World Cup, however I will like it if he stays on.


Tuna, you can't rescind Stick from any responsibility when the boks do bad under AC, but praise him when they do well under Rassie. And let's be honest, we won the WC thanks to the brute force of our forwards, not because of amazing attacks by our backline.

Human: Dunno what he did to deserve the bok position
Davids: I also haven't seen any official appointments, but his name has been bandied about for a while now, so it seems likely he'll be part of the coaching team. Again, apart from some promising signs from a no-name kings team during 1 super rugby campaign, his coaching record should speak for itself. Absolutely pathetic


That wasn't my intention. I justfeel he got some serious flak from AC who was trying to cover his own arse and hung Stick out to dry. While Stick isnt the best, he did not deserve that treatment and was good in his role at the WC. A backline coach isnt to blame for all that went wrong in 2016 and in the same way isnt the reason all went right in 2019. Didnt know what I wrote will come out like that??

All I tried to do was point out what his role was and what he is involved in doing at the Boks....

The one thing is that we will have continuity. That is very important. The thing is Rassie will be giving instructions to his coaching team. Maybe even his famous disco lights at some pointLOL. Well, Jacques Nienaber is the best defensive coach in the world. Howeever, I don't believe it's right to give him the springbok job as his first gig in a head coach position. 

Deon Davids has never done anything to warrant being in die springbok setup.

Thing is, after the WC Rassie can do no wrong, and no-one will question his appointments or decision making. But no, apart from Nienaber as defense coach, I would not want that coaching team even at the Lions!

Where things stand

Head coach: Jacques Nienaber, a physiotherapist with no real rugby or coaching experience who have been riding on Rassie's coattails since their army days
Scrum coach: Daan Human, a coach the Cheetahs were quite happy to be rid of, lending him to the Bulls who were 10th in scrum success under him
Forwards coach: Deon Davids, who was fired by the Kings
??? coach: Mzwandile Stick. Not sure what his job is at the Boks
Defence analyst: Felix Jones, who seemed to have done a good job analysing opposition teams at the RWC. New role not announced

Rassie will have a lot on his plate and a lot will depend on whether Rassie focuses on the Boks or on his real job as DoR

Taking Rassie out of the picture would you have been happy with this coaching team for the Lions?
